Emily Spencer Kerby was a teacher, author, feminist, and social activist. She was born on March 26, 1860, in Toronto, and was the fourth daughter of Sarah Lafferty and James Spencer, a Methodist minister. Emily's life was dedicated to helping women and other minority groups. She was a selfless individual who was a member of numerous service clubs during her life, including her role as president of the National Council of Women of Canada. She was an involved member of the Calgary community until her death in 1938.
