Squirrel Whiskey, Mr R and Prohibition in Southern Alberta

CHF 20.00

By Belinda Crowson

Uncover the good, bad, and the ugly of Southern Alberta residents during prohibition.

Squirrel Whiskey, Mr. R. and Prohibition in Southern Alberta, focuses on the second prohibition period from 1916 to 1924. Prohibition lasted eight years, but it significantly changed the attitudes, laws, and residents overall mindset on the topic. Some people thrived during this time, but others who pushed back against the law ended up in jail and with criminal records. Author Belinda Crowson breaks down the prohibition period and gives the reader a better look at how it affected Southern Alberta’s history.

She was born and raised in Southern Alberta and has lived in Lethbridge for several decades. From 2000-2017, she was the Museum Educator at the Galt Museum & Archives, teaching history to Southern Alberta students.
